Thailand Nightlife Roundup

Welcome to my website.  Unlike the universe, this website has a purpose: to offer rants, tirades, opinions and discussion about books on Thailand, give an overview of nightlife in Thailand and, yes, to provide a few news items which might not appear elsewhere.  And to have some fun.

Bar, club and restaurant owners who would like to send material on their special events, birthday bashes, anniversary parties, etc., are welcome to do so but please remember men in Thailand are a bit jaded so if you’re just going to offer the usual free gourmet food and free full band entertainment and free beautiful and eager-to-please women, well, the lads have been there, done that. So do try to offer potential patrons something special. ;-)

There is a contest every two weeks when this column appears and the first to answer the question correctly or identify a photograph correctly will receive vouchers worth at least 3,000 baht in food and drink, i.e., 500 baht each, from Larry's Dive, Shadow Bar, The Old Dutch, Electric Blue, The Duke of Wellington pub, and Bourbon Street Restaurant. The prizes will build up in case anyone doesn't win it immediately so the bonanza for the eventual winner could get quite interesting.  It will double to 6,000 and, if still no winner, to 9,000, etc.  Second prize is a "I Support Single Moms" T-shirt.  And please remember a part of all money received from the sale of my books goes to needy Thais (in the form of payment to go go dancers, waitresses and hostesses).

Beer Girls at the Londoner Pub play cowgirls for the night, thanks to Fred of lending them his Mexican hat.

Coming soon: More videos and stills of coyote dancers from new clubs in Bangkok.

Lest you get too busy stuck in Soi Cowboy or Nana Plaza, remember there are in fact other entertainment areas in town.  The Queen Victoria Pub will be here in two months and meanwhile don't forget the Thonglor area, soi 55.  For example, from left to right: J Avenue, a showy area with lots of restaurants at Thonglor soi 15, including Villa Market, Au Bon Pain, bowling alley, etc; Log Cabin pub at Thonglor soi 18; the sign displaying all of the various restaurants inside the Log Cabin complex; entertainment inside the Log Cabin pub; and, let us not forget Woodstock, the restaurant once located inside Nana Plaza where Rainbow 4 now is (seems long ago, doesn't it?) now on Thonglor soi 13, just a ten minute walk from J Avenue.  And, by the way, Happy Hour at the Log Cabin pub doesn't end until 7:30 and consists of three different beers including Heineken and Chang.  The Log Cabin pub is large and might best be described as a somewhat subdued version of the Londoner pub for those in need of a slower pace.  Alas, a large percentage of customers have to sit outside to smoke thereby breaking up the atmosphere even in pubs.

And, believe it or not, even the Texas Long Star Saloon at Washington Square has set up a small porch with chairs for smokers.  When I was there the other night, some drunkard was giving the manager a hard time.  Wouldn't have been the Lone Star if it weren't for colorful folks like that.  And, of course, the Witch's Tavern is also on Soi Thonglor just down the street from all the rest (three right-hand pictures above).  And, wonderful news, George Pipas, owner of the Lone Star, is out of the hospital and is occasionally back in the bar!  Way to fight back, George!

Should you still wish to venture to Nana Plaza, you might want to try Erotica.  Their upstairs is still closed but they have a bundle of cuties downstairs.  Very sad about the girl in Rainbow 2 killed by the Japanese boyfriend.  Out of jealously.  And then he killed himself.  Crazy.

I like the wooden type of sanphrapun, spirit house, with its jao thii, guardian of the grounds and main house, so I photographed this one while walking along Soi Thonglor, as well.  I also walked past "The Best Room Exclusive Club" and heard music but have no idea what goes on in there.  No doubt too exclusive for me.

Never too young to start.

Ah, to be young and daring and foolish and to ride an elephant down the length of Soi Cowboy!  Intrepid tourists who haven't seen what happens when elephants run amuck.  You'll notice in one of the pictures there is an actual traffic jam of elephants.  Amazing Thailand.

More Soi Cowboy, outside the Cactus Bar; you know, the bar in which the ladies are definitely not overburdened with clothing.  And there is also a rare shot of the irrepressible Fred from posing in front of a sexy sign on Rachadapisek Road.  Fred lives in Mexico and paid us a long-overdue visit during which time I think one might say he very much enjoyed himself.  And, of course, the scene would not be complete without a shot of a lovely Nataree massage parlor maiden.

This is part of the new Skytrain extension.  I photographed it in Pratunam.  I think this is the extension that will eventually connect to the new airport.  Or, no, maybe this is going to Thonburi.  Or maybe it's going to Brooklyn.  How the fuck should I know where it's going?

The latest After Dark magazine cover.

The Big Mango bar lives again!  On soi 4!  Soft opening June 3rd, 4 p.m.  Big Time not-to-be-missed opening coming soon!

Warning from the Satire General's Office: "Light" Satire Reading Still a Threat: Reading even light satire a few minutes a day can have dire health consequences, according to satire researchers at Soi Cowboy University in Thailand.  "Heavy" satire readers do damage to their arteries more than so-called "recreational satire readers" who read satire up to forty minutes a day.  But this can lead to inflammation reactions in the blood vessels," says Dr. Lek Yak-satang in the University's Research & Anti-farang Division.  Moderate satire, especially satire written by farangs, and especially any which combine information on nightlife, promotes calcification of the arteries, and also interferes with blood clotting.  In the long term, the risk of heart attack, stroke and even impotence "rise significantly," even in the case of light satire readers, as has been shown by Dr. Dang Chob-ngern at Bangkok's Center for Satirical, Sardonical and anti-farangical Research.

The New McCarthyism?

(If you are a white, heterosexual male you damn well better read this!)

I've said before that as far as I'm concerned you can hang pedophiles.  But there is a very real danger out there that if you are a white heterosexual male traveling in a place like Cambodia, and especially if you are much older than the (adult) Asian woman you are with, you may be accused of pedophilia.  Especially by female do-gooders - local or foreign - who throw the charge of "pedophile" against any man traveling with a younger Asian woman.  Two New Zealanders were thrown in prison after having been charged with pedophilia by the Cambodian Women's Crisis Center (CWCC).  Part of the PhnomPenh Post report is:

Both Lauwaert and Cleghorn claimed they had been set up by the CWCC, saying the organization had promised the plaintiffs money for their testimony – a charge the CWCC has repeatedly denied.

But at the time of Cleghorn’s arrest, several of his Cambodian neighbours had also petitioned Cambodia’s king, saying that the CWCC has attempted to coerce and bribe them into making false allegations against foreigner men.

Calling the Cambodian prison system a “hellhole,” Cleghorn’s supporters in New Zealand released a statement shortly after Lauwaert’s death dismissing his trial and demanding that he serve his sentence at home...Cleghorn’s case has remained headline news in New Zealand since his trial, and concerns over the proceedings were so acute that the New Zealand government sent an ambassador from Thailand on a special diplomatic mission to help get Cleghorn a second appeal.

Lauwaert, 41, died in a Cambodian prison recently of an apparent stroke (or whatever).  Obviously, we can't be certain of what is true or false in this case but the fact that Cambodian neighbors petitioned the King and claim the CWCC attempted to coerce and bribe them into making false allegations against the two men (rather than take a bribe) is striking.  The reasons such organizations would do this kind of thing is because if they can snare white guys, they get a higher profile and more donations.  And, of course, there are some western women about who piss their pants when they see older western men with younger Asian women and would love to do something - anything! - to stop it.

In addition, you may or may not know of APLE (Action Pour Les Enfants).  This short article is from the Times of India:

KOLKATA: A 30-year-old French national, in the city for a global seminar, tried to commit suicide in a five-star hotel on Friday.

Darnaudet Thierry checked into the hotel on Wednesday evening, two days ahead of the seminar on ‘global humanity’.  He put up a ‘Do not disturb’ sign on the door and bolted it. After that, Thierry neither stepped out nor took any call.  Initially, none bothered.  But when 24 hours passed without any sign of him, the authorities decided to take a look.  They knocked on his door and then tried calling him up through the intercom.

Hotel employees opened the door and found Thierry unconscious on the floor.  On the bed was a bottle of wine, strips of sleeping pills and a suicide note in English, said DC (detective department) Ajoy Kumar.  "I don’t want to live. My body should be burnt and the ashes thrown into a river," the note said.

Though Thierry is still in ICU, his condition is stable.  Police have informed the French Consulate and asked it to inform Thierry’s relatives in France.

The website has had several comments about this from various people.  Here are a few:

1. when the president of Action pour les Enfants tries to commit suicide, it is not just about anybody. He runs several child protection organisations, among one was called (UNCLE !) and a childrens home in India. His organisation is trying to eradicate pedophelia in Asian Countries like Cambodia and India and who knows where else. His dramatic suicide note suggests, that he could have gotten involved with those he is proclaiming to protect. That would be a plausible reason to commit suicide. Unfortunately the Cambodian Press seems to ignore this fact completely. To them it's a non event. That's why it took 2 Month for the info to arrive here. The link still can be found under google search: thierry darnaudet india.

2. Considering the scams these groups are involved in, it would be good for the human race if more ngo's workers followed his example, but a bit more successfully.

WHY IS NONE OF THE replying to this subject, when they are soo eager to report on almost every white male in cambodia, albeit in their homemade reports and database which must by now have multiple pictures of all caucasian men in cambodia ?

AND NO, this is not to protect a single pedo but the privacy rights of everyone that happens to fall in their path.
AND YES, every pedo has to get the max. sentence that the law provides since the damage done one the soul and well being of a child can never be compensated for.
AND YES, some of the child protection NGO's should start digging in their own backyards. (Maybe that's exactly what Darnaudet did !)

4. last month Thierry Daurnaudet was arrested in Calcutta for badly beating a child in his care. This is not the first child in his homes to be beaten and there are serious questions to be asked as to why anyone can set themselves up as an NGO looking after children, Thierry believes he is doing things the Indian way !!! Malik Kartoon was left black and blue and taken to hospital by his sister Rabia where Drs advised her to seek police involvement. As children of the very poor their voice will not hold the weight that Mr Daurnaudet's will and he is likely to get away with this travesty yet again. He knows he is Guilty.

Friends who have spent time in Cambodia also tell me that drivers, etc., have been told by these do-gooder companies that they will pay them for information about Western men and younger women.  So you see there is a real (financial) incentive for someone to accuse you of being a pedophile.

However, as reported in the Phnom Penh Post, as least some people do see that dangers in what is happening:  "At the heart of the problem, advocates say, is a flawed law that equates all commercial sex work with human trafficking, what Cheryl Overs of the Asia Pacific Network of Sex Workers (APNSW) calls a “conflation of prostitution and trafficking.”

“It assumes that sex work is inherently degrading and therefore that you cannot consent to it – like you can’t consent to slavery – so all sex workers become victims of trafficking,” she told the Post.

Critics of Cambodia’s “Law on the Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation” said it is so broad and open to interpretation by authorities that even those unwittingly associating with sex workers can be arrested for trafficking."

And, sho nuff, in the eyes of some of these wanna do gooders, if you pay for sex you are exploiting women therefore trafficking.  And that again, in their eyes, is purdy darn close to pedophilia.

Finally, you may recall that Barbara Lee, a Chinese-American woman, working as a do-gooder in Cambodia frowned upon a picture of my goodself with Min and Mot, the lovely twins, who used to work on Sukhumvit soi 33.  Barby is, in my opinion, a typical representative of female do-gooders in Asia as far as their attitude toward white males is concerned.  When I said in one letter that people can hang pedophiles she began her next letter to me with "Dear pedophile."  And there you have it:  The raging hatred they have for white males daring to do anything with young adult women.  (In my case I was simply shooting pool with them at the Londoner pub.)  And, above all, how with alacrity, they will charge us with pedophilia, no matter how inaccurate or false the charge.  In their feverish, bitter little minds we are exploiting Asian women and if so then we are somehow pedophiles to boot.  Here is just a bit of one of her letters:

<<<it is "White men" or "Farang" who have poisoned everything they touch in Southeast Asia. You are one of them and doing your part to make it a better place to be exploited. Keep up with the hellful job!>>>

Hmmm.  I guess it is true we white boys have poisoned everything we touch in Southeast Asia.  But what about the Japanese invasions and cruelty in SE Asia, and their horrible occupation of Korea from 1910 to 1945 (saved by white men and others fighting and dying against the Japanese).  And the 30 million Chinese deaths and suffering of Chinese caused by Mao's insane policies.  And Chinese repression in Tibet?  And the cruelty of the North Korean government and army toward its own people?  And the cruelty of the Burmese government and army?  And...well that obviously doesn't mean much to women like Barbara Lee because in their embittered little minds only white guys poison Southeast Asia; especially white guys who dare to prefer lovely Asian women quite a bit younger than they are.  And, make no mistake, in their minds such a man is a pedophile.

Have you ever noticed that whenever some high profile nutcase pedophile from the West is caught in Bangkok or Cambodia it is discussed in the letters to the editor and in editorials but why does no one discuss the real problem of pedophiles in Asia: that is, the many thousands of girls being molested or in danger of being molested by "Uncle" and even closer family members?  I know of several cases of Thai teenage girls moved because of that kind of situation.  But don't hang by your thumbs until that kind of situation is denounced by the press in Asia.  Once again it is only the white boys who do bad things, right?

And, oh yes, before I forget, two fat white women in Bangkok once called me a "pervert" when they saw me shooting pool with 30-year-old Ammy.  All I did that night was get my butt whipped at the pool table, but apparently my having fun with a beautiful, sexy Thai woman was a bit too much for the farang chicks.  (Maybe I should stop playing pool with women altogether?)  So the message for white guys traveling in Asia is the same as the sergeant on Hill Street Blues used to give his fellow cops when they left for their shift: BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.

Khun Nana's Corner

Khun Nana is a savvy local expat who keeps in shape by hitting most of the bars of Nana Plaza as often as possible.  From his vast experience, he will enlighten and entertain us with his recollections of the bar scene be they humorous, tragic or somewhere in between.

I was asked recently whether bar gals or “normal” gals are more high maintenance.  Actually they can both be very high maintenance, but in different ways.  With the bar gals the maintenance is all about money... That’s not necessarily a bad thing.  Lots of guys just want hot sex and some companionship from a sexy young gal, and with a bar gal all you really have to give in return is money and lots of it.  Most likely she will be a lot less concerned about you as a person and really getting to know your heart and soul.  Keep the money coming and it’s a done deal.  They will invent all sorts of wild stories about tragic happenings in their life that require additional funds.  The stories can really be quite amusing if you are not the one forking over the cash.

Last night I was drinking with a close friend when his mobile rang.  The first thing he said to the caller was “what happened to the money I just gave you 2 days ago?”  Needless to say his new flame is a working gal.  He made all sorts of excuses when he got off the phone to try and save face in front of me, but to no avail.  I asked him why he would be giving lump sums of money to a professional gal and his response was that the sex was just so good he couldn’t help himself.  No problem, it’s his money and he can spend it any way he chooses.

The absolute best thing about dealing with bar gals is that it is the only time in your life you will deal with a woman and know all the rules up front.  With every other woman you meet in your life it’s a fight to meet her, difficult to get her phone number, and even more difficult to figure out where you stand with her after you start dating.  Dealing with bar gals is simple in comparison and really only becomes complex when the man forgets that he is in a “pay for play” relationship.

Normal Thai gals can be very high maintenance in a different way.  Rarely do they require a lot of money, but they often require way too much attention. Some of them want to be with you ALL THE TIME.  I often feel smothered.  My mates involved with normal gals often get ten to fifteen calls and text messages from them per day.  If even one of these is not answered or returned within minutes the gal can become quite annoyed.  I would characterize normal Thai gals as often being controlling, jealous and needy.  Whereas with the bar gal the guy only needs to keep the money coming, with the normal gals you have to give them constant attention.  Which is worse?  That may depend on how much money you have!  My Thai friend Somchai likes to say, “With Thai gals you give them your heart but they want your soul.”

It would be very easy to become disenchanted with the bar gals’ constant requests for money and date only normal gals.  It is also entirely possible you may soon become tired of normal gals and their insatiable need for attention, and switch back to bar gals.  What is a guy to do?  My solution is to date normal gals, and when they become overly possessive or controlling I move on.  I also see professional gals for fun and sex, but never give them any money except the agreed upon fee for services rendered.  The system works for me but I am sure there is an even better solution out there that I have not stumbled upon yet.

Many Westerners in Bangkok like to talk about how simple the low class Thai people are.  I suppose the extreme low class in any country lead very simple, mundane lives and therefore do not really have the luxury of worrying too much about the state of the world.  After all, they are too busy trying to scrape out a living and maintain a meager existence.  Last week I had a really funny experience that not only demonstrates this point, but also shows that the middle class Thais may not be that much different in their way of thinking.

I had a date with a lovely middle class Thai gal who is studying for her Masters degree in Bangkok.  We met at the Saphan Kwai BTS station near the center of the city and began walking down the main avenue toward a Thai restaurant she was keen on eating at.  On the way we stumbled upon a very interesting looking old movie theatre that was definitely still operating, but was under the radar as far as being listed in local newspapers or other publications.  I was intrigued to say the least, and spotted a security guard stationed at the entrance to the front of the building. I walked up to him and attempted to get the details on the movie house.  Here is the conversation translated into English:

Me: What time does the theater open?

Guard: I don’t know.

Me: They are still showing movies here?

Guard: Yes.

Me: Is there a time of day where a person comes with a key and opens the doors?

Guard: Yes, every day.

Me: About what time is that?

Guard: I don’t know.

Me: When a person comes and opens the door is it daytime or nighttime?

Guard: I am not sure.

Me: Are you a new employee?

Guard: No, I have worked here 4 years.

I walked away in frustration, but not really surprised that this lazy old guy was just clueless and going through the motions.  What really shocked me was when my middle class educated Thai gal said “Farangs are so strange.  How would he possibly know the answers to those questions?”  A glimpse into Thai mentality.

Until next time.  Khun Nana

Overheard quote of the year: "What if somebody shoots Cheney dead and Bush becomes president?"

As I'm not a computer nerd I do not look forward to a trip to Pantip Plaza.  Just getting there is usually a problem because that area is always congested and once inside the building it is worse.  But there I was caught in a crowd between a booth selling Buddha amulets and a booth selling the latest useless inventions one can attach to a computer or TV or cellphone.  Not to mention the porn DVD booths.  Upstairs I feel like I am truly entering a foreign country.  Signs all around are in two languages.  I don't read Thai so I don't know what that's trying to tell me and I don't read computerese so I don't know what that is trying to tell me.  Computerese such as this: "CPU INTEL DUO CORE E2180 2.0GHz FSB800 L2-CACHE 2MB 3Y M/B ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 SHIP INTEL 945 FSB1333 VGA/SLOT PCI-E 16X."  Whenever I leave Pantip Plaza I head for the nearest hotel with a bar.

A film critic on a director's latest film: "Far be it from me to dismiss a man's effort in a sentence, but the film on your teeth after a three-day drunk possesses more cinematic value."

Not to worry; Thai coyote ladies have all under control.  And they "like" each other.  A lot. Thanks, Baron.  Or are these in fact the nurses George Pipas of the Lone Star had at Ramkamhaeng Hospital?  He did say they were beautiful and friendly, didn't he?

Sean Bunzick has another book out.  I haven't read it yet but from the sound of the blurb it is at least as far out as anything I've ever written:

Lek is just another beautiful "working girl" in a seedy Phuket town full of working girls. But when she is kidnapped by a crazed genetic scientist and taken to his Bangkok laboratory, her life takes some very original twists and turns. The scientist is insane, but he is also brilliant, and before long he has made history by cloning Lek and turning out five identical replica "Leks" each with distinct characteristics of her own.

As the real Lek remains imprisoned in Bangkok, the clones are released and sent on wildly different paths. One takes over a bar on Soi Cowboy. Another ends up working for a Russian gangster and his Islamic allies in Pattaya. A third is a lesbian who is forced to work in a heterosexual bar in Bangkok's Nana Plaza. Yet another finds herself in Chiang Mai where she dedicates herself to slipping in and out of Burma and creating havoc among the Burmese military. The last clone is perhaps the scariest of all--a psychopathic killer who relishes torturing and murdering her victims.

Man, I don't know what Sean has been smoking but I sure wish he'd share some with me.

This is India, you know, the place you call when you have technical problems with your computer.

Review of the new film, Soi Cowboy

Chris Coles's Painting of Soi Cowboy

With his assured but deeply unpleasant debut feature, The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael, the British director Thomas Clay established his credentials as both a cineaste with a defiantly arthouse tastes and an arch provocateur. The artfully photographed ultra-violence garnered plenty of news headlines and rather fewer positive reviews when the film premiered in Critic’s Week in Cannes 2005. Clay drew comparisons to the arthouse enfants terrible Bruno Dumont and Gaspar Noi. A British director, he had a decidedly un-British sensibility.

With his second feature, Soi Cowboy, the 28-year-old Clay distances himself geographically as well as stylistically from his British roots. Shot entirely in Thailand, where Clay now lives, the film is divided into two distinct parts, perhaps as a nod towards Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Tropical Malady. The first segment, shot in rather lifeless black and white, observes the mundane minutiae of the lives of a bloated Danish ex-pat and his pregnant, childlike Thai girlfriend. The man, played by Nicholas Bro, is a film - maker – presumably he is Clay’s alter-ego, although what that says about his life in Thailand is debatable. The couple live together in a cramped apartment but it feels more like a convenient co-existence than a relationship. Clay favours long takes and an almost static camera, but he seems less confident in what to do with it than he was in his first film. At one point, during an interminable, wordless breakfast scene, the camera starts to drift gradually, almost imperceptibly, before coming to rest, inexplicably, on a toaster.

Through the quotidian dullness of the couple’s daily life, we piece together a picture of a partnership based on a kind of commerce. She gets to escape the girly bars of Bangkok’s Soi Cowboy; he gets to pop Viagra then stare hopefully at her back as she curls away from him in bed at night. Towards the end of the segment, the couple take a trip to the temples of Ayutthaya and there, when both take on the status of tourists, there seems to be a glimpse of a proper relationship rather than just a business deal. But Clay takes a long time to say very little in this part of the film.

After the stultifying austerity of the first segment, the saturated colours and the jerky hand - held camera of the second part come as a relief. Stylistically, it’s more rewarding. Set among the rural poor, the story demonstrates how much less a life is worth if the cushion of money is not there to protect it. A young man returns home, on the orders of his mafia boss, to kill his brother for some unspecified sin. However, his own life is worth little more. The couple from the first part reappear but as different characters to highlight the film’s less than profound insight that a wrong turn somewhere in life can have devastating ramifications.

Clay doesn’t let us forget his self-appointed auteur status, name-checking his own first film alongside David Lynch’s Inland Empire. But there is little sign of his supposed genius in this pretentious, fraudulent film. - Wendy Ides, London Times

This film has gotten mixed reviews.  The above review is intelligent enough but when a Western woman speaks of the absence of a "proper relationship" one wonders if she is responding to the film or to a lifestyle in Asia which she dislikes.  The expat is "bloatish," the Thai woman "childlike."  Perhaps if in the morning the Thai wife had said, "We have to talk," female Western reviewers would have liked it more...

One of my books published in 1983 is now selling used for US$200.  Don't everybody rush out at once to buy it.  It's out of print.  Nice to know some of my books go up in value over time.  I wonder if I could exchange one of those copies for, say, a long time with one of the dancers at Rawhide.  Somehow, I think not.  All is relative, I guess.

Have some Marijuana: Compliments of the Customs Dept!!

An unwitting passenger arriving at Japan's Narita airport has received 142g of cannabis after a customs test went awry, officials say. A customs officer hid a package of the banned substance in a side pocket of a randomly chosen suitcase in order to test airport security.

Sniffer dogs failed to detect the cannabis and the officer could not remember which bag he had put it in. Anyone finding the package has been asked to contact customs officials.

"This case was extremely regrettable. I would like to deeply apologise," said Narita International Airport's customs head Manpei Tanaka." Yeah, right, I'm sure the lucky guy will contact customs, all right.

Bangkok Post Watch

The Bangkok Post continues to outdo itself in slanted reporting.  As we know, it allows a Muslim fanatic to have a column in the paper; it allowed a newly formed pro-Palestine group to run an article in the paper; and it refuses to publish letters it doesn't like even when someone uses a real name preferring to publish letters it likes even with pseudonyms.  Now, however, they allowed the Council on American Islamic Relations to have a long spiel in the paper as well.  As if CAIR is a voice of moderation in America!  Well, here is what the experts say about that voice of moderation:

But there is another side to this organization as well. CAIR is “unusual in its extreme rhetoric and its associations with groups that are suspect,” according to Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL). Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) has said of CAIR that “we know it has ties to terrorism,” and “intimate links with Hamas.” CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation jihad terror funding case. Several of its former employees and board members are now doing hard time on various terrorism-related charges.

And CAIR’s co-founder and former Board Chairman, Omar Ahmad, told a Muslim audience in 1998 that “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran ... should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.”

The Bangkok Post seems to have unlimited space for the ramblings of Muslim fanatics and for those who favor the Palestinian cause but none for the other side.  The question is why?  And let us not forget how this paper treated its former employee, Bernard Trink.  When, due to political correctness and feminazi complaints, they told him he was being terminated, they refused to let him mention it in his column.  That's right - they censored him.  At the time he was fired his was still the most popular column in the paper.  And after all those years of his service, the Post said not one word about him.  How's that for treating people like shit?

Letters from Readers

Dear Dean,  My referring to tattooed Thai bar whores as tattooed Thai bar whores, in my request for you to bring back your delightful service on behalf of tattooed Thai bar whores to help them find a foreigner husband, rendered my request ineffective. After all, what you (or it may have been Khun Leigh) perceived was the necessity to set forth how one should refer to such Thai – entertainment providers I believe it was. By the time you accomplished that, you’d forgotten to consider my request. The onus is on me; again, I was ineffective.

Hence, allow me to do it right this time where I’m requesting you bring back those notices on behalf of tattooed Thai entertainment providers wanting a foreigner husband, complete, as before, with their photo and email address.

Some friends and myself, all married to Asians (well almost) (Korean, Vietnamese, Filipina, & Mexican Oxacan Indian) have fun evaluating these Thai wanting a “farang” (as you put it) husband. We particularly enjoy discussing the woman’s tattoo, tongue-in-cheek having fun with the one of us married to a Filipina having a tattoo, with us noting we particularly like the Thai’s tattoo. Of course, he doesn’t appreciate that and other connotations he’s always receiving about tattooed Asian bar sluts. Best, Lewis

Lewis, Rest assured, should the opportunity present itself I shall indeed place an Entertainment Provider in the limelight once again.  Some of these girls just don't quite understand that a lot of men still would prefer tattooless women; but all is a matter of taste.  I know of a case in which a friend of mine, David, had a Thai girlfriend who tattooed his name on.  Then they split up.  I guess that limits her future beaus to "David."

Dean, Have you ever thought about this one? Another Thai Immigration screwup.  Why is it that as a 73 year old single person I am required to show 800,000 baht income to get a retirement visa to support just myself, but if I would marry a Thai girl I would only need half that, 400,000 baht to support myself and her? Sounds backward to me when they actually think two can live cheaper than one.

Charlie, Could be they figure you will have spent at least 400,000 baht on her and her family so you don't need to show as much as when you are single.

Re: Sex and the City: So, how did you like the movie ?  C'mon now - I know you went opening day.  I know how you love to listen to women bitch and moan about men, relationships, marriage, etc.  Deep in your heart, you miss the Western Feminazis and you are tiring of the beautiful, fun, feminine Thai women.

Looking forward to your next column. Cheers ! Steve

Steve, yeah, right.  I'm happy to say the NY Times dumped on it.  Here is the ending of their review:

There was something seductive about the bubble world that the show created back in 1998, in the fantasy that all you needed to make it through the rough patches were good friends and throwdown heels. That was a beautiful lie, as the show acknowledged in its gently melancholic return in the wake of Sept. 11. Back in Season 3 Carrie asked, "Are we getting wiser, or just older?" The ideal, of course, is to do both. There is something depressingly stunted about this movie; something desperate, too. It isn't that Carrie has grown older or overly familiar. It's that awash in materialism and narcissism, a cloth flower pinned to her dress where cool chicks wear their Obama buttons, this It Girl has become totally Ick.

Pat Condell's latest GREAT short video on Islam!

The "Religion of Peace" visits India, kills 80, and teaches this four-year-old a lesson as well.

"Two things happened in Iraq last week.  A US soldier shot a discarded copy of the Qur’an, and al-Qaeda strapped explosives to an 8-year-old girl, killing more Iraqis in the name of Allah.  Only one of these acts enraged Muslims.  Do you know Islam well enough to know which?" -

Yet another Muslim "honor killing": Sixteen year old Afghan girl in Germany killed by her brother because she wanted to live as other girls in Germany do.

This could be your future judge in a courtroom - unless you fight to stop it.

Whooops!  What would the Religious Police say?

Very short video: A woman's breast is cut off by Muslims as a warning to those who will not convert to Islam (Sudan):

The Religion of Peace kills 3 prostitutes

BAGHDAD, Iraq: Sunni extremists have killed three prostitutes and wounded two others in a brothel attack in the northern city of Mosul, Iraqi police said.

The insurgents knocked on the apartment's door Monday and shouted at the women that they had been warned before not to carry out prostitution, said a police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

The militants then opened fire on the apartment, he said, citing testimony from one of the wounded women.

Excellent books written by those who speak the truth about Islam

“Religion is an insult to human dignity.  With or without it, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things.  But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.”-- by Nobel Laureate physicist Steven Weinberg.

A Saudi Arabian man has been sentenced to eight months in prison and 150 lashes after he was caught meeting a woman without a chaperone in a coffee shop

By Damien McElroy, Foreign Affairs Correspondent, Telegraph

Muhammad Ali Abu Raziza, a psychology professor in Mecca, was arrested by the Kingdom’s feared religious police, the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. He was accused of breaking the Islamic injunctions under the Khilwa code, which restricts the independence of women. It stipulates that women must not meet men alone, other than relatives.

However the professor has alleged police entrapment. He claimed a history of personality disputes with the arresting officers, who were once his students. In his defence, Abu Raziza had said he had called the woman to ensure she had a chaperone but despite her assurances, she was alone when he arrived. No information has emerged about the fate of the woman since the incident.

Amnesty International has urged Saudi authorities to release the professor: “Saudi Arabia should stop needlessly persecuting people like this - we want to see a complete end to people in the kingdom being punished for 'khilwa’ offences.”

55 "honor killings" by Muslim men in Germany alone!

HAMBURG, Germany: A German man confessed to killing his 16-year-old sister in what investigators believe was an honor killing, police said Monday

The 23-year-old man, identified only as Ahmad O., said he stabbed his sister Morsal O. on Thursday night in the northern German city of Hamburg, police said. She died early Friday morning from her wounds. Investigators said The man is being held on suspicion of murder. The siblings are both German citizens of Afghan origin, and other relatives were also to be questioned, police said.

"We will question the whole family," spokesman Andreas Schoepflin said.

Investigators say they believe the sister was stabbed because her brother disapproved of her Western-oriented lifestyle. Honor killings are committed because some cultures believe it is the only way a family's honor can be cleansed.

Germany's Federal Crime Office said that 55 such killings were recorded in the country from 1996 to 2005. Last year, the youngest brother of a Turkish-German woman was convicted of shooting her at a Berlin bus stop, incensed over her adoption of a Western lifestyle.

Please note, I do not and never would advocate violence again individual Muslims in any community.  For one thing, the guy you beat up with a baseball bat may turn out to have just escaped from some horrible Islamic regime.  Individual violence against Muslims or doing damage to mosques, etc., is just stupid and is also counterproductive as Muslim fanatics will show pictures of that all over the Muslim world to incite people against the West.

A good case can be made that Islam is a fanatical brotherhood masquerading as a religion, and, indeed, the adherents of Islam often act that way.   But, as individuals, a Muslim neighbor might possibly be more honest than a Christian neighbor.  It is only that the Muslim will have been brought up in a religion/brotherhood with a medieval mindset that is centuries behind the times and has a penchant for violence, especially against those who criticize the Koran and other aspects of Islam.   Winning the war against Muslim fanatics will take a long time and be hard-fought but it can and will be won.  But we must demand that more and more moderate Muslims join the fight against fanatical Muslims.   We must demand that our leaders absolutely reject any "compromise" on our right to free expression.  Compromising with the fanatics pulls the rug out from the Muslim moderates desperately trying to reform and secularize Islam.  And we must never bow to Muslim demands to curb our hard-won freedom of expression.   And freedom of expression always includes satire and even insulting satire including satire of glorified tribal myths called religion.
